KNOW OUR DIAMONDS

Understanding the 4C

Diamonds share four qualities that allow us to compare and evaluate them. These qualities are the four Cs: Color , Clarity, Cut y Carats.

These qualities are the globally accepted standards for evaluating the quality of a diamond.

The beauty of a diamond is largely determined by its cut. By this we mean that the way the facets interact with the light. Perfectly proportioned, symmetrical and polished diamonds optimise the way the stone interacts with the light, meaning they shine and sparkle more. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) assesses these factors and classifies diamonds on a symmetry scale, from excellent to poor:

Excellent · Very good · Good · Acceptable · Poor

Aristocrazy only selects diamonds categorised as excellent or very good..

The cut of a diamond is the only quality that is not naturally created. At Aristocrazy we ensure that the hands that work on our diamonds are highly experienced, with great technical ability and skill to maximise the diamond's brilliance.

The most recognized cut for diamonds is the brilliant, made up of 57 or 58 triangular and rhombus-shaped facets arranged to optimize brilliance and return of the light.

A diamond’s clarity is a measure of its purity and uniqueness. The GIA classifies the purity of diamonds on an 11-point scale, ranging from diamonds without defect and without internal inclusions (FL/IF), to diamonds with visible inclusions (I1, I2, I3). These categories are based on whether the inclusions can be seen with a x10 magnifying glass.

Truly pure (no inclusions) diamonds are very rare, most diamonds have natural inclusions that are invisible to the naked eye and do not affect their beauty.

At Aristocrazy we always create our jewels with VS1, VS2 and SI1, SI2, diamonds, with white inclusions and never with inclusions close to the centre of the diamond or slab.

The colour refers to the natural colour of white diamonds. Most have a slightly yellow tone, the lighter the colour of the diamond the more unique and exceptional it is.

The standards for classifying the colour of diamonds is based on a system where diamonds are ranked from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow).

Aristocrazy only works with diamonds in the colourless and almost colourless range (D, E, F, G, H and I).

Diamonds are weighed in carats. Carats measure the weight of the diamond, not its size. One carat is 0.2 g..

At Aristocrazy all diamonds with a caratage greater than 0.3 g come with a GIA certificate.

SETTINGS

Setting refers to the way the jewel is positioned in the ring’s metal band. The most important factor is to ensure that the setting highlights the beauty of the diamond.

CLAW SETTING

CLAW SETTING

This is the most common setting and features thin metal strands at the girdle that hold the diamond in place. This setting ensures that the light passes through the gemstone, making it shine. Claw settings can come in flat, triangular, round, plain or decorated versions.

V-PRONG SETTING

V-PRONG SETTING

With this type of setting the jewel is held by v-shaped prongs of metal with notches on the inside of the prongs to hold the jewel in place.

GRAIN SETTING

GRAIN SETTING

Grain setting is when small, round gemstones are used to hold the jewels in place. These support the diamond at the crown. In this type of setting, the jeweller can create different designs by distributing the grains evenly.

PAVÉ SETTING

PAVÉ SETTING

Pavé comes from the French word for paving. Pavé setting uses diamonds set closely together in parallel sharing the same grain, much like diamond paving.

CHANNEL SETTING

CHANNEL SETTING

This technique sets the pieces next to each other in a line inside a channel specially prepared to hold them. This type of setting protects the diamond as it ensures that none of the edges are exposed to knocks. It is best used for round cut jewels such as brilliant cut gemstones.

BEZEL SETTING

BEZEL SETTING

This setting uses a metal rim around the girdle of the diamond, with only the crown (the top of the diamond) on show.

PERFORATED SETTING

PERFORATED SETTING

The way the diamond itself is perforated makes this a modern setting as it highlights movement and its majestic shine.

Our diamonds crown the heads of piercings with a wide variety of styles, from simple and sophisticated chatons, where the Diamond is the absolute protagonist, to the contemporary Les Delicieux.

Style and quality

The search for beauty and quality forces us to accept demanding standards to offer our clients elegant compositions that reveal the unique light of these exceptional gems.

Our style is unique, always respecting the ultimate goal of enhancing the beauty of the diamond to the maximum. We dare to take the jewel to another level, drilling it in Dylon, or messing up its more traditional composition as in Mic.

We are responsible: The traceability of our diamonds

Responsible sourcing of our diamonds is an obsession for the Suarez Family. For this reason, we make sure that all our jewelery is made with diamonds from countries that are part of the Kimberley process, which means that we refrain from working with diamonds from conflict zones.
